David's journey began on October 3, 1968, in the sunny city of Chula Vista, California. He embarked on his final rest on March 19, 2026, at the age of 57, following a brief but valiant battle with illness at Texas Health Dallas.
A proud alumnus of Burges High School in El Paso, Texas, David carried a piece of his diverse upbringing and spirit with him throughout his life. His dedication to service was a cornerstone of his character; David completed two enlistments in the United States Navy. In his civilian life, he explored a wide array of professional paths, approaching each new challenge with his characteristic adaptability and an eager, open mind.
David’s most enduring legacy, however, lies in the indelible mark he left on the hearts of everyone he encountered. He was truly a man who "never met a stranger," possessing an extraordinary gift for connection and genuine warmth. His infectious optimism and quick wit meant that laughter was a constant companion in his presence. David had an unparalleled ability to illuminate any room and uplift spirits with his cheerful disposition and a boundless capacity for joy. Beyond his human connections, he harbored a deep and tender love for animals, finding immense solace and happiness in their companionship throughout his life.
David’s memory will be cherished by those he leaves behind. He is survived by his devoted girlfriend, Monica Rhea, who was a steadfast source of love and companionship. He also leaves behind his loving sisters, Nancy Samuels and myself, Kathy Rodriguez, as well as his much-adored stepdaughter, Renee Irizarry, all of whom will profoundly miss his vibrant presence. His lifelong friend, John Sullivan, whom David affectionately considered a brother, also mourns his passing deeply.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Russell and Genevieve Scott, and his nephew, Jonathan Stovall, whose memories he held dear in his heart.
David’s departure leaves an immeasurable void in the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know him. We will forever hold onto the memories of his boundless spirit, his infectious laughter, and the immense love and light he shared with the world.
