Obituary For Phyllis Bozeman

Phyllis Jacqueline Bozeman, known to everyone as Jackie-was born in a tiny Kentucky town to Lou Edna and Allen Grubbs. She was the cherished sister of Randall Allen Grubbs and Michael Lane Grubbs, and from the beginning, her life was full of laughter, curiosity, and love. At just four years old, Jackie moved to Texas, where she found her true home. She embraced everything about the Lone Star State. Jackie was undeniably beautiful, but it was her kindness and strength that made her unforgettable. She took great care of her skin, and anyone who knew her likely received a luxurious skincare produce, especially her nurses and those she loved. She graduated from Bryan Adams High School, poised and graceful, ready to take on the world. In 1963, Jackie married James Bozeman. They spent 37 years together raising their beloved children, Nancy Allen Bozeman and John Jason Bozeman. Though their marriage eventually ended, Jackie and James remained good friends, a testament to the deep respect and love they always held for each other. Jackie worked hard her entire life. At just 16, she began her career at the telephone company, staying for 10 years. She later worked for a trucking company, a tax planning firm (TransAmerican), the SMU bookstore, and Kirkland's. She took pride in every job and brought her warm spirit and diligence to each place she served. She loved being Nana most of all. Jackie adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and delighted in each moment spent with them. Her heart was as big as her laugh, and she carried many roles with joy. Mom to her kids, Nana to her grandkids, Aunt Jackie to her nieces and nephews, and "Gertie" to her own mom, who had a nickname for everyone. Jackie was an adventurer at heart. She loved the beach, especially in Galveston and Biloxi, and found joy exploring cities like San Francisco, Washington, D.C., London, and New Orleans. Her favorite place might have been the WWII Museum in New Orleans, where she would spend the entire day, reading every plaque and soaking in the history. A lifelong learner, she found beauty in the details. Style mattered to Jackie-she had her "Color Me Beautiful" palette done early in life and always carried her Spring color wheel when shopping. If it wasn't her color, she wouldn't wear it. Her sense of style was as vibrant and thoughtful as she was. She was a loyal fan of the Texas Rangers, an Indy racing enthusiast turned NASCAR devotee until recent rule changes spoiled the fun for her. She had strong opinions and a sharp wit, and she loved a good debate, especially over sports. Jackie loved cats, especially her Doodle and Lucy, and she had a knack for gift-giving. Whether it was family or friends, she could always find the perfect present, a true reflection of how well she knew and loved the people around her. She is survived by her children, Nancy Ann Bozeman and John Jason Bozeman and his wife Nicole; her brother Randall Grubbs; grandchildren Devon Camp and Michael Bozeman and his wife Jaicee; great-grandchildren Isabella Baker, Kayne Bozeman, and Rylee Bozeman; nieces and nephew Darlene Grubbs, Jay Grubbs and his wife Angela, Nicole Grubbs, and Brooke Grubbs; great-niece Felecia Diaz and great-great-niece Isabel Diaz. Jackie now joins in heaven her parents, her brother Michael Lane, and her former husband James Bozeman. Her memory will live on in every thoughtful gift, every story told, and every Texas sunset. We will miss her humor, her strength, her warmth-and most of all, her love.
