Obituary For Theodore Hendricks

Theodore Dewain Hendricks was born on December 25, 1948, in Cleburne, Texas, to DeVonne and Julia Hendricks. One of nine children, Ted grew up in a family that faced many hardships. Though his early years were filled with challenges, these difficult experiences shaped him into the strong, determined, and loving man he became. He learned the value of hard work and perseverance, vowing that one day his own family would always stay together. When Ted met Coreen known as Bobbie, he found what he had longed for-a home filled with love and unity. Their love story began in an unexpected way when Ted's sister arranged for him to take her friend to prom after a sudden breakup. That night, Ted and Bobbie formed a bond that would last a lifetime. They were inseparable from that moment on and recently celebrated 54 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they raised their two sons, Christopher and Stephen, and their daughter, Jeannette, in a home filled with love, strength, and plenty of humor. Ted worked tirelessly to provide for his family, ensuring they never had to endure the separations he once faced. Ted was a man of quiet strength, unwavering loyalty, and a deep love for his family. His daughter once said, "He is what a man should be." He was strong, protective, and fun-a provider in every sense of the word. Hardworking by nature, Ted built a career as a computer analyst for ARCO and MBNA, where his dedication and expertise made him a valued part of both companies. But even after long workdays, he would often head over to help at the family restaurant, Herrera's Cafe, never shying away from lending a hand. Cooking was one of Ted's great joys, and he delighted in preparing meals for his loved ones. His Sunday morning breakfasts were legendary-fluffy eggs, golden pancakes, waffles, crispy potatoes, and toast piled high for anyone who gathered around his table. Even in later years, when his health declined, he stubbornly tried to keep up the tradition, showing his love through every meal he prepared. Though he was born on Christmas Day, Thanksgiving was Ted's favorite holiday. The combination of good food and family gathering around the table brought him the greatest happiness. And no one could miss Ted's well-known sweet tooth-peach cobbler and chocolate milk were among his favorite treats. Ted poured his heart into coaching his children's baseball and softball teams. To his young players, he was "Papa Smurf"-a nickname that stuck with him for years. His love for sports extended beyond coaching, as he was a passionate fan of the Dallas Mavericks, Cowboys, Texas Rangers, and most importantly, his Oklahoma Sooners-especially when they played against Texas. Beyond his love for family and sports, Ted had a passion for classic cars, particularly the '57 Chevy. Over the years, he owned three of them, always drawn to the beauty and power of a true muscle car. Among his greatest joys was his little Pomeranian, Foxy, who adored him just as much as he adored her. She was his constant companion, always by his side. Ted faced one of life's greatest heartbreaks in July 2020 when his beloved son, Stevie, passed away. Losing a child is a pain no parent should endure, and it was the hardest challenge he had ever faced. Despite his own grief, Ted remained a pillar of strength for his family, offering love and support to those around him, just as he always had. Although Ted took pride in many aspects of his life, his favorite role was being "Pa" to his grandchildren. Nothing brought him more joy than spending time with them, sharing his wisdom, and making them laugh with his endless jokes and playful spirit. His love for them was limitless, and they cherished every moment with their Pa. Ted has now reunited with his beloved son, Stevie, in a beautiful celebration beyond this world. Free from pain and hardship, they are together once again, surrounded by love and peace. Ted leaves behind his loving wife, Coreen ("Bobbie"); his devoted children, Christopher Hendricks Sr and daughter, Jeannette Hendricks; and his grandchildren Alexis ("Lexi") Wall, Christopher Hendricks Jr, Dylan Lima and Skylar Lima. Ted Hendricks was a good man-a loving husband, a devoted father, a playful grandfather, a loyal friend and brother. His laughter, his teasing jokes, his legendary breakfasts, and his unwavering love for his family will be missed beyond measure. But his legacy lives on in the lives of those he touched, the traditions he passed down, and the love that will never fade.
