Barbara Lindner Graves Murphy passed peacefully into the waiting arms of her Lord and Savior on January 13, 2025 following a lengthy battle with dementia and interstitial lung disease. She was born on September 28,1940 in Jacksonville, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Hunt Lindner, Sr. and Corinne Reeves Lindner; her beloved husband, Henry Bruce Murphy and her very special aunt Margaret Lindner (Margy).
She was an honor graduate of Jacksonville high school and then graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in three years with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education. Her career began at Rosemont school in Oak Cliff (Dallas Independent School District) and was the youngest teacher to ever be employed by DISD. She received her masters in special education from the University of Toronto in the summer of 1964 during which time she was also taking care of her 6 month old daughter, Kathryn.
Barbara's work experience over the next 10 years included kindergarten teacher in Toronto, administrative and teaching duties at Little Rock Montessori school and Director of Educare Centers in Little Rock. Barbara was ahead of her time in realizing after school childcare was aneed and founded three schools including A Center for Children, A Center for Infants and After School Service which she successfully operated for over 25 years.
Barbara was a long time member of Methodist churches in Jacksonville, Little Rock and Hot Springs. Her faith was exemplified by a life of compassion, kindness, love and service to family and others. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She fiercely loved her family and was happiest when she was with them. She was an adoring "grandma" and a selfless caregiver for her mother, father, and her Aunt Margy in the latter years of their lives.
In retirement, she enjoyed living in Hot Springs, spending time with her grandchildren and traveling the World with her beloved husband Bruce who planned fabulous trips for them and their friends and family.
Barbara is survived by two daughters, Kathryn Graves McGhee of Dallas and her husband John; and Claire Graves of Hot Springs; six grandchildren – Michael John and McGhee, Matt Wyatt McGhee, Sarah Kathryn McGhee-Ledesma (Lane), Hannah Grace McGhee, Maximillion Graves Mihailovic and Thomas Wyatt Lopez; two great grandchildren -Sadie Jane Lopez and Owen Wyatt Lopez; the father of her children, Fred Wyatt Graves, III, of Opelika, Alabama; brother Henry Hunt Lindner, Jr. and wife Kathryn Lindner of Houston; cousins Joanna and James Reagan of Tyler; Cousin Hannalore Spears of West Palm Beach, Florida; cousins Gay and Derle Lindner of The Woodlands; stepson Dr. Joseph Murphy (Teresa) of Little Rock; step grandchildren Patrick Murphy and Brittany Holt; stepson Michael Murphy; Step daughter Partricia Silvie; and numerous cousins.
During her final years, Barb was blessed to have known her friend, Ray Sasser, a loving companion and protector who brought so much joy and comfort to her. We are extremely grateful for two of her exceptional caregivers, Kat Coleman and Domonique Shed, who showed her such love, compassion and friendship.
A celebration of life for Barbara will be on February 7, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Hughes Family Tribute Center at 9700 Webb Chapel Road in Dallas, TX 75220 and she will be laid to rest the following day at a family graveside service in Jacksonville, Texas.
