With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Gary Leroy Jones, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Gary passed away peacefully on April 3, 2025, in Dallas, Texas, at the age of 71.
Born on June 13, 1953, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Gary dedicated his early years to serving his country in the U.S. Army from November 24, 1971, until his honorable discharge on November 23, 1977, achieving the rank of Specialist 4. His commitment to service reflected his strong character and loyalty, values he would carry with him throughout his life.
Gary was known for his loving and generous spirit, always placing family above all else. He shared a deep devotion to his faith, finding comfort in the study of the Bible, enriching the lives of those around him with his love for scripture. His passion for music inspired his children to sing together, creating a legacy of harmony and joy within the family.
As an enthusiastic sports fan, Gary had a deep love for football, a passion that began when he played in high school and stayed with him throughout his life-though he didn't root for any particular team; he just loved the game. In basketball, however, he had a special fondness for the Los Angeles Lakers. Known playfully as "Red" in his younger years, and affectionately called "Jones" by his wife Carolyn, Gary is remembered as a compassionate man whose joyful spirit and love for life brought his family together.
Gary is survived by his devoted wife, Carolyn Jones, and his cherished children: Crechelle Jones, Merissa Jones, Tanisha Jones, and Gary Jr. He also leaves behind several grandchildren who will carry his memory forward. He was preceded in death by Mary Alice Releford, Jack and Eva Releford, and his brother, Ricki Releford.
To honor Gary's life and legacy, a family viewing will be held on April 18, 2025, at 7:00 a.m. at the Life Celebration Center. Following the viewing, a graveside service will be conducted at 9:00 a.m. at DFW National Cemetery, located at 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75211.
As we gather to celebrate the life of Gary Leroy Jones, we remember a man full of love, strength, and faith who made a lasting impact on all who knew him. His spirit will forever remain in our hearts.
