Jacquelin (Jackie) Louise Brummel, aged 85, of Dallas, Texas, passed away peacefully on the 25th of May, 2024 surrounded and comforted by loving family.
Jacquelin Louise Mease was born on the 10th of February, 1939, in Broken Bow, Nebraska, to Richard Bruce Mease and Flora Elizabeth Mease (Blakeley). Jackie grew up in the Midwest with her parents and younger sister Ginger, with whom she remained very close her whole life. Jackie pursued her education with a passion, earning a BA from Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Missouri, and an MA in music from the University of Kentucky. Her love for learning led her to complete a second MA for teaching Spanish from Texas A & M – Commerce, reflecting her diverse talents and dedication to education. While in college at Culver-Stockton, Jackie met and married her true lifelong companion, B. Lee Brummel with whom she spent her life and created a loving family.
In her personal life, Jackie was deeply devoted to her family, friends, hobbies, work, and her faith. She and her husband Lee Brummel, had four children: Christopher Lee Brummel, Theodore Joel Brummel, David Manuel Brummel, and Elizabeth (Becky) Louise Brummel. Their journey as a family took them across continents, living in Mexico, Argentina and Germany. Jackie and Lee (and their growing family), first moved to Mexico to learn Spanish, spending about six months there before settling in Argentina for five years. After a year-long return to the United States, they ventured back to Argentina for another four years, then spent a year in Germany, and finally returned to Argentina for an additional seven years, before returning permanently to the United States. Back in the United States, Jackie and Lee lived in Fort Worth, Texas, Sikeston, Missouri, Dallas, Texas, and Hanford, California before returning back to Dallas for the rest of their lives. Wherever in the world Jackie went, she was active in the Disciples of Christ church and was very active with church music, especially, choir, piano, and bells. She looked forward to making beautiful music and loved the community.
Throughout their travels, Jackie ensured that her children were immersed in the local languages and cultures by enrolling them in local schools while also teaching them English at home. Though her children initially vociferously resisted the extra lessons in English, they later came to appreciate her efforts, recognizing the invaluable skills and opportunities they gained as a result of her dedication.
Jackie had a profound love for beauty, which she expressed through her passion for music and flower arranging (Ikebana). Her journey in Ikebana took many turns as she moved to different parts of the world. She became the President of the local Dallas chapter and even traveled to Japan for a World Ikebana Conference. She also loved playing the piano, the guitar, and the flute. Most of her life, she had a piano in her home which she loved to play. Her commitment to music and Ikebana was a testament to her artistic spirit and her desire to find and create beauty in the world.
Jackie was also actively involved with P.E.O., an organization she cherished, designed to empower girls and women through education. Her life was filled with love, learning, and service, touching the hearts of many through her dedication and kindness.
Jackie is survived by her four children: Chris, Ted, David, and Becky; her 3 children in law: Karen Mattia, Micheline Laurent, Daniel Astrudillo; her seven grandchildren: Alea, Gina, Kayley, Matthew, Kathryn, Rielle, and Vivienne; her sister, Ginger Lee and countless other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by parents, Richard and Flora Mease, her beloved husband: Lee Brummel, her treasured granddaughter: Bonnie Elizabeth Brummel, and her brothers and sisters-in-law: Wayne Lee, Judy Zylstra, Marilyn Brummel-Haines, and Ken Brummel.
