Nicole Monique LaJeunesse Gregory was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on November 23, 1976. At the age of 10, she moved to Texas, where she forged an unbreakable bond with a group of young girls who would remain her steadfast companions for the next 38 years, walking beside her through every high and low life had to offer.
In 1997, she married Jason Gregory and in January of 1998, she was blessed with the birth of her daughter, Hailee Crysta Marie LaJuenesse Gregory—the apple of her eye, heartbeat of her soul.
Nicole is survived by her mother, Emily; her surrogate father, Rudy; her siblings, Alicia, Sarah, and David; and her beloved daughter, Hailee. She was preceded in death by her beloved grandparents, Estefanita “Bita” Aragon LaJeunesse and Diego LaJeunesse, who lovingly and wholeheartedly poured themselves into Nicole’s life until their passing.
Nicole and her mother Emily shared an apartment in the heart of Addison, where they thrifted treasures, refurbished furniture with flair, and played card games late into the night— since Nicole lived firmly outside the boundaries of time. She was a night owl with her own schedule and her own pace: slow, methodical, precise. She was a woman with vision, and every little detail had to be just right, and she would see that it got that way, or there would be Hell to pay! But when a project was finished, it was amazing in a way that only Nicole could create.
Her sister Alicia says that to be in Nicole’s circle meant knowing—without a doubt—that Nicole had your back. They affectionately called each other “Sissy Poo” and no comfort on earth could compare to being wrapped in Nicole’s arms. “I held her secrets and she held mine,” Alicia said. They could tease each other mercilessly—but if someone else dared to cross that line? They’d have both sisters to answer to.
As a mother, Nicole’s love and nurturing spirit knew no bounds. She poured herself into raising Hailee— encouraging her dreams, instilling values of kindness, resilience, integrity, and hard work. Her love was unwavering, her presence a steady source of strength, and her wisdom will echo in her daughter’s heart forever.
Nicole’s love of music was legendary. Her Facebook page (darlingnikki1976) was a curated playlist of her soul: from Prince (her all-time favorite) to Taylor Swift, Rufus Du Sol, The Killers, Queen, NKOTB and the Flannel Pajamas. Nicole had range and she loved it all.
Her life was a radiant blend of creativity, strength, compassion, and fierce connection—with people, animals, and the world around her. She adored her cats, with a forceful gentleness—rescuing strays, nursing the sick back to health, delivering kittens, tending to every creature who crossed her path with dignity. She lived boldly, fearlessly—guided by a passionate heart, a curious mind, and the soul of an artist. She was a mother, a sister, a daughter, a friend . . . A true artist of life in every sense. Though she has left this earth, her essence remains—in every purring cat, every sparkling trinket made by hand, every inside joke whispered among friends, and every memory that makes us laugh through the tears.
