Rainey Alan Lovell, a Godly-fearing man whose infectious smile, vibrant spirit, & deep faith in his risen Savior touched everyone who knew him, passed away on February 27, 2025, at the age of 22, after a courageous battle with bipolar mental illness. He proclaimed, "God is my refuge & strength, a very present help in times of need." Psalm 46:1. Born on September 9, 2002, in Dallas, Texas, Rainey was the cherished only son of Alan & Kelli Lovell. Rainey was also a beloved brother, uncle, nephew, teacher, & friend. His life was one of joy, service & love – he embodied the heart of a true servant & his unwavering dependence on Jesus Christ guided every aspect of his life. "Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ & you will be saved," in Acts 16:31 set him apart as a child of God. "Have Courage & Be Kind," was more than a motto – it was a way of life that he embraced wholeheartedly. He never hesitated to put others before himself, always striving to serve those around him with humility & grace. Being intentional, Rainey never let a relationship fade & eagerly reached out to others in love.
Rainey's story began in the the warmth of a close-knit family. He was raised as part of a rodeo family living on a farm in Texas surrounded by the wide-open spaces of country life. As a child, he shared the gospel & proclaimed Mark 16:15, "Go into all the world & preach the gospel to every nation." In his journal he wrote, "Jesus is my strength, hope & joy. God has blessed me with a loving family. I am fortunate to have been homeschooled by entire life & grateful to have 4 beautiful sisters as best friends. Family is my biggest blessing." He had a passion for memorizing scripture, could quote the entire book of Colossians & dozens of full chapters from the Bible. Rainey spent his childhood riding horses, climbing trees, swimming in ponds, cousin fun, and raising countless farm animals. Rainey was always at the center of the fun in any group, his sincerity & bright smile lighting up every room.
Born with a song in his heart, Rainey knew that God had given him a musical talent, he felt passionate to share this gift to bless & encourage others. He played an array of musical instruments with passion & precision to bring people together, to uplift & bring glory to God. The truths in the old hymns were precious to him, they literally drove his life. Rainey was carefree as he played & sang, filling any room with "the joy of the Lord, who was his strength." Nehemiah 8:10. From age 0-100, he felt called to love all people.
As Rainey grew, so did his sense of style. In his younger years, you would find him only wearing a cowboy hat & boots. As he matured, he embraced a "Stay Dapper" mantra & this style mirrored his character – poised, classy & confident. While attending his beloved Criswell College in Dallas, he discovered his love for the city & frequently explored the downtown streets, artistically photographing the Dallas skyline. Being an avid State Fair of Texas fan, he would grab a Fletcher's corn dog and take in the city sight. He was as loved in his city world as he was in his country world.
Rainey's faith was the cornerstone of his life. His passion for studying the Bible was seen vast ministry work. "Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman who needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth." 2 Timothy 2:15. His Bible was his most prized possession; he lived its teachings by sharing God's word & helping others grow in their faith. Especially close to his heart was the CHILDREN he taught & genuinely loved. Rainey believed in making every child feel valued, seen & loved. His playful spirit & deep convictions, made him a favorite leader & friend. One of Rainey's most cherished roles was serving at Cowboys & Cowgirls for Christ Camp, a camp founded by the Lovell family to share the love of Jesus to children through horses.
Rainey will be remembered for the love of Jesus that flowed through his veins & his loving relationships. He so generously shared laughter, even when struggling. He expressed wanting others to read the Bible & consider Jesus, who came to earth, lived a sinless life, died on the cross, rose from the dead, & ascended to His Father, awaiting the day when He will return for all who trust in Him. Rainey is in heaven now, resting in his eternal home with the Lord. God's love alone is what heals & saves broken lives. Ephesians 2:8-9 "For by grace are you saved by faith & that not of yourself it is the gift of God, not of works so that no man can boast." All glory goes to God for Rainey's life.
