S.R. Iyer, lovingly known as Raman to his family, lived a life rooted in discipline, humility, and unwavering devotion. Born in 1939 in Kuzhithurai, Tamil Nadu and third eldest among 8 siblings, referred as chinnanna (brother) by his younger siblings, he was a devoted son who deeply admired his father and carried forward his values with pride even after his father's passing. A gifted orator and natural executive, he initially aspired to follow his father's footsteps as an advocate but ended up in a different career. He studied at Aligarh Muslim University and Banaras Hindu University, and went on to build a career in marketing, public relations, and entrepreneurship across Bombay, Ludhiana, Delhi, Ahmedabad and Chennai. During his later years, he immigrated along with his wife to the United States of America and lived with his son and daughter-in-law.
He was a perfectionist-his handwriting was no less than calligraphy, his memory razor-sharp, he was extremely detail oriented and his mind brimming with ambition and ideas far ahead of their time, and sometimes beyond his financial capacity. Raman was pious, spiritual beyond reason and loved listening to devotional songs all the time in his final years. A devoted follower of Lord Shiva, he held a special reverence for Arunachaleswarar of Thiruvannamalai, often turning to his faith with quiet intensity and grace.
Above all, he was a loving husband, father, and friend-selfless, principled, and committed to his family. Married for 49 years, he cared deeply for his wife and adored his son, making countless sacrifices to support his dreams and well being.
He was known for his impeccable dressing, quiet strength, and commanding presence. Though short-tempered and obsessive compulsive, even in his final days, his love for his family never wavered. He will be missed beyond words. Lovingly remembered by his wife, son, daughter-in-law, family and dear friends.
